Surviving is her daughter Nicole E. Bachman; and her sister Gae Valenti; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Dulcie D. Bachman; and her brother Richard Comstock.

Born June 28, 1933 in Whites Crossing, daughter of the late Frank and Tillie Gorel Penksa, Ann was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Moscow, and a member of the Church’s Altar and Rosary Society.
Also surviving are her children, Brian F. Novobilski and wife, Patricia, Allentown; Deborah A. Yeager and husband, Walter, Yardley; Kevin M. Novobilski, Guttenberg, N.J.; Karen M. Novobilski and companion, Juan Perez, Farmingdale, N.J.; and Cynthia B. Novobilski, Moscow; sister, Catherine Bellas, Carbondale; four grandsons, Paul A. Yeager, Craig M. Yeager, Eric J. Yeager and Kyle M. Novobilski; and great-granddaughter, Berkeley P. Yeager.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Frank and Albert; and sisters, Helen and
Evelyn.

Born April 11, 1970 in Erie, she was the daughter of Mildred M. Palmer Cooney of Erie and the late James P. Cooney. Laurie was known for kindness, her big heart and generous ways.
Also surviving are a daughter, Gretchen L. Rozelle, Bethlehem; brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins, and in-laws too numerous to mention by name.
A celebration of life service will be:

George A. Sherman Jr.

Born June 10, 1938 in Scranton, son of the late George and Jean Kalkus Sherman, he attended Scranton schools and, before his retirement, he was employed by Chamberlain Industries for 38 years.
George served in the Army National Guard 109th Infantry from 1955 until 1958. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scranton.
Surviving are his two sons, George A. Sherman III and wife, Valerie; and Alan Sherman and wife, Maryann; daughter, Janet Devine; three grandsons, Robert Sherman and wife, Kirsten; Michael Sherman and wife, Jessica; and Matthew Sherman; a granddaughter, Nicole Sherman; sisters, Delores Granahan, Gloria Geisinger, Diane Damiano and Sharon Kester; brother, Daniel Sherman; numerous nieces and nephews; and cousins.
Funeral services will be:

John W. Shaffer, 53, of Moscow, died Wednesday at Regional Hospital of Scranton following a lengthy illness.
Born April 23, 1963 in Scranton, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Green) Shaffer. John was a lifelong resident of Moscow, and was educated in the North Pocono schools. John was employed by the Diocese of Scranton, and worked diligently at St. Catherine’s Cemetery as a grounds keeper for 30 years. John was of the Methodist faith.
John fought a courageous battle with cancer for 13 years. His positive attitude, sense of humor and his goal of raising his son, Brian, to adulthood is what got him through the rough times.
John’s family would like to express thanks to Regional Hospital, Thomas Jefferson Medical University and the Moscow Volunteer Fire Company for their care and support. Additional thanks to Dr. Kristine Kelley and the Diocese of Scranton for their unwavering support and kindness to John.

George Sholtis

George Sholtis, Dalton, Pa., joined his wife and son in heaven on June 15, 2016, while in the loving care of his family at home. Born on March 11, 1918, he was 98 years old.
Born in Jessup, Pa., he was the son of George and Mary Soltis. He was the last survivor of a total of 12 children (Mary, John, George, Thomas, Andrew, Albert, Susan, Millie, Olga, Joseph and Ferdinand. He grew up during the depression era picking coal off of the culm dumps to help heat his family’s home and helped his mom make boot leg whiskey to sell to the coal miners.
He quit high school to join the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and worked at Cooks Run, Two Mile Run and Ole Bull Run around the area of Renovo, Pa. making stone walls along highways that still exist today. He was paid $30 per month, of which he sent home $25 per month.
At the age of 22 he enlisted in the Army on May 6, 1940. After training, he was sent to Manila in the Philippines where he worked as a medic. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, which preempted the U.S. involvement in WWII, the Japanese invaded the Philippine Islands. He and his fellow American and Filipino servicemen were captured on April 7, 1942 and were forced to walk in what is now remembered as “the Bataan Death March.” He was a Japanese POW for three-and-a-half years being liberated in Korea on Sept. 12, 1945. He weighed 79 pounds.
After returning to the states, he met the love of his life, Eleanor Salansky, and they were married June 22 1946. His wife Eleanor, after 51 years of marriage, passed away on Nov. 9, 1997. They resided in Elmhurst and worked in the Moscow Post Office until his retirement in 1973. He was also a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge 504 in Moscow.
His son George, who honored his father by joining the Army through ROTC, passed away June 12, 2014. He is survived by daughter, Beverly Sheruda and Michael, with whom he resided for the last 19 years. He helped raise their four children, cooking after school snacks and welcoming them home off the school bus.
He is also survived by two granddaughters, Jennifer Sholtis Garfall and her husband, Dr. Alfred Garfall, Wallingford, Pa.; and Dr. Jessica M. Sheruda, Dalton, Pa., and boyfriend, Adam Ryan, Jermyn; and by three grandsons, Dr. Michael G. Sheruda and wife, Dr. Maral Avetian Sheruda; Matthew Sheruda; and Dan Sheruda and wife, Karen, all of Dalton, Pa.
He is also survived by two great-grandsons, Alex and Ben Garfall, Wallingford, Pa.; and his daughter-in-law, Rose Sholtis, Harveys Lake, Pa. Rose was instrumental in his medical care during the last month of his life and the family will be forever grateful to her.
Also important to George was his caregiver, friend and confident, Christine Benio, who had become a member of his family and was fortunate enough to be with him when he died. His niece, Sally Sholtis; her sister, Jean Kneiss and husband, Peter, were very special to him and always visited when they were in Pennsylvania.
He is survived by brother-in-law, Thomas Salansky and wife, Lois, Union Dale; and sister-in-law, Ronna Salansky, Nicholson; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Eugene Harasym and his wife Colleen, who helped greatly with his medical care at home, Dr. George Avetian, who called and encouraged the family during George’s last weeks and the VA of Wilkes-Barre who provided care to George for several years in his home.
His grandchildren were the pride of his life and they all helped take care of him as he had taken care of them when they were young.

Martha E. McCauley

After a courageous battle against cancer, Martha E. McCauley, nee Oley, age 65 of Clifton, Pa., passed peacefully on Monday, June 13, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was born to the late Cecilia Gora and Karl Oley on May 16, 1951.
Martha attended West Side High School in Scranton, Pa. During her junior year, she was a selected to be a Rotary exchange student to Sweden. Upon graduation, she matriculated to the University of Pennsylvania pursuing a career in nursing. Due to extenuating family circumstances, Martha transferred to the University of Scranton where she met her husband, retired Tobyhanna Army Depot Counseling Psychologist Daniel J. McCauley.
While she spent most of her adult years being a superlative mother to her children, her desire for learning and education smoldered. In 1991, Martha received her Bachelor’s in Science in biology, English and secondary education. She later went on to earn a Master’s in Education in administration from Wilkes University, and her Master Gardener certification from Penn State. Martha was the recipient of the Scranton Times-Tribune Northeast Woman in 1990. She taught high school English at Pocono Mountain West before retiring to tend her gardens, and care for her grandchildren.
Martha is survived by her husband of 43 years, Daniel J. McCauley; son, Dr. Brian D. McCauley and daughter-in-law, Tammy McCauley; and her grandchildren, Danny and Connor; her daughter, Danielle Schneider and son-in-law, George Schneider; and her grandchildren, George and Gavin; daughter, Michielle Wood and son-in-law, Craig Wood; and a number of other close friends.

Robert E. Hughes Jr., 72, of Clarks Summit, died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Robert Edward and Evelyn (Gilmore) Hughes. He was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and attended the University of Scranton. Before his retirement, Robert was employed as a sales executive with Keystone Automotive Operations Inc.
He was antique car enthusiast who restored a 1972 Mercedes-Benz, which brought him over 100 trophies.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Barbara Kennedy, are his daughter, Ellen Hughes Marotta and husband, Victor Marotta of Avondale Estates, Ga.; and his son, Robert E. Hughes III and wife, Megan Calpin Hughes of Clarks Summit, Pa.; three grandchildren, Samuel Alexander Marotta, Hannah Elizabeth Hughes and Harrison Rhys Hughes; his sister-in-law, Marion Doherty of Emmaus, Pa.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joseph A. Blash, 85, of Gouldsboro, and formerly of Woodbridge Twp., N.J., died Friday at the Linwood Nursing Center in Scranton following a lengthy illness. His wife of 65 years is the former Dorothy D. Mooney.
Joseph was born Oct. 21, 1930 in Marlin, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Blash. Before his retirement, Joseph was employed as a precision sheet metal mechanic, and plant manager for several manufacturers in New Jersey.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 5088 of Avenel, N.J., where he served as grand knight. He was presently a member of Knights of Columbus Council 6050 of Moscow, and was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church of Moscow.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his sons, Richard Blash and wife, Gwen of Belleville, N.J.; Christopher Blash and wife, Ann Marie of Avenel, N.J.; and Rodney “Rod” Blash of Annandale, N.J.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Josephine Pleva and Agnes Kwasnieski; and his brothers, Edward, Anthony and Frank Blash; a baby granddaughter, Carissa Ann Blash; and grandson, Matthew Blash.

Memorial Service – June 11, 2016
Richard M. Wahlers, formerly of West Caldwell, passed away at age 75 on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 in Scranton, Pennsylvania following an eleven year struggle with Parkinson’s’ Disease and other medical issues.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Richard never gave up his fight and lived his life by two mottos: “My word is my bond” and “Be the best you can be”. His family was his life and he will be remembered by others for his hearty hello, warm smile, and helping hand. In the end, he decided to donate his body to the Humanities Gift Registry which provides distribution of bodies to medical and dental schools for teaching purposes.
Born in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, New York, Richard grew up in Wantagh, New York where he graduated high school. He moved to Florida where he attended the University of Miami for three years. He began employment with TransWorld Airlines (TWA) prior to enlisting in the Army from 1963-1965. He served overseas in Germany as a Specialist 5 Sergeant and chaplain’s assistant, receiving an honorable discharge.
Upon returning to the states, Richard resumed employment with TWA in New York City and worked as a sales rep and later account manager. He was a consultant for the Hotel and Restaurant Management Society at Fairleigh Dickinson University and an annual sponsor of the Mahwah Tennis Classic. Throughout his career he earned several accolades including #1 Salesman in Presidents #1 Club Worldwide, Presidents #1 Club twice more, Award of Excellence, and Superstar in Sales, prior to retiring in 2002 after 41 years.
Richard married his love, Linda Speckmann, in 1967 and raised three children in their West Caldwell, New Jersey home. You could always find him on the sidelines cheering his kids on with their activities. He became an active fixture in the community finding ways to integrate volunteerism into his work and personal life. He was the Assistant Scoutmaster and then Scoutmaster for 20+years at Troop 3 Caldwell. He received the District Award for merit upon his retirement from scouting. During the same 20+ years, Richard was an active member of the West Essex First Aid Squad. He taught CPR and heavy rescue training, was an EMT, President, Captain and Lieutenant. He received the Life Member Award.
Throughout his life, he was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, later the Caldwell Methodist Church and the Gouldsboro Methodist Church. Richard volunteered at Marine Corp golf outings to support children of the marines and held roles within the Big Bass Lake Maintenance Committee (20+ years), the Caldwell Masons, and the Caldwell United Methodist Church. During his retirement, he enjoyed painting and woodworking, selling his wares at local craft events.
Surviving is his wife Linda of Gouldsboro, PA; three children: Allison and her husband Rick Rafferty of Lincoln University, PA, Brian and his wife Brenda Wahlers of Coudersport, PA, and Kathy and her husband Brian Doyle of East Stroudsburg, PA; along with seven beautiful grandchildren: Zachary, Ava, Jennika, Austin, Chase, Delaney and Ella. He is predeceased in death by his parents, Alfred and Dorothea Wahlers.

Saturday, June 11, 2016 at a Celebration of Life Memorial Service held at the Caldwell United Methodist Church, 8 Academy Road, Caldwell, New Jersey.
The family will greet visitors from 10 – 11 am with the service beginning at 11 am.

Robert R. “Uncle Bob” Comstock, 67, of Scranton died Tuesday at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore following a lengthy illness. His wife is the former Diana M. Kowalewski.
Born November 29, 1948 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Calvin and MaryAnn (Parry) Comstock. Bob was a US Army veteran, serving two tours in Vietnam as a door gunner. He was a member and a past commander of VFW post # 7251 in Throop, PA. He was also a member of the “Friends of the Forgotten” Military Support Group; and a member of the American Legion.
Bob had his own trucking business for 25 years; and had driven for Shaffer Trucking. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Super Market Services of Dunmore.
Bob loved to ride his Harley Davidson Motor Cycle with his wife on long Sunday rides. He was an avid fisherman, and a devoted Green Bay Packer fan.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughters Kristen Leri of Peckville, and Nicole Kolodzieski of Scranton; his sister Sandra Howe and husband Bill of Scranton; grandsons Collin Comstock, Dominick Kolodzieski and Silas Kolodzieski; nieces and nephews; and aunts and uncles. He is also survived by his loving pets Henry and Dusty.
He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Comstock.

Marysia L. Reilly, 87, of Moscow, died Sunday morning at Mountain View Care Center in Scranton, where she was a guest.
Born Aug. 5, 1928 in Endicott, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Edmund and Marie (McAndrew) Reilly. Marysia was a 1946 graduate of Marywood Seminary, and a graduate of Marywood University, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education. Before her retirement, she was employed in social services at St. Joseph’s Center, Scranton.
Marysia was a former member of The Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and taught primary through junior high school in the 1950s and 1960s. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Moscow, and worked at the church rectory for several years.
Marysia’s friends would like to extend thanks to Life Geisinger and the Mountain View Care Center for their extraordinary and loving care.
Surviving are a cousin, John McAndrew and family; several other cousins; and dear friends, including, Marie Allen and Valerie Cliftion.

Doris N. Dobrydney, 89, a resident of Mountain View Care Center in Scranton, died Saturday following an illness. She was the widow of Edward A. Dobrydney, who died April 28, 2010.
Born Oct. 25, 1926, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Helen (Pisarski) Novak. Doris was a graduate of West Scranton High School. Before retirement, she was employed by Haddon Craftsmen of Scranton as an administrative assistant to the president. She was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish in Scranton.
Doris’s family would like to thank Mountain View Care Center for their wonderful care.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Richard P. Walsh

Richard P. Walsh, 76, of Scranton, died Friday at Moses Taylor Hospital following an illness. His wife of 55 years, Joanne Lasher Walsh, died June 24, 2015.
Born Sept. 20, 1939, in Scranton, he was the son of the late Eugene and Mary (Bordo) Walsh. He was educated in Scranton schools and had been employed as a foremen at the former Triple- A Trouser Inc. He was a former member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Scranton.
Surviving are his daughters, Lori Walsh and Renee Walsh; and his grandchildren, Robert “Robby” Burns, Eric Hanstein and Amber Hanstein; and a great-grandson, Eli Hanstein; five brothers; and other grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Richard P. Walsh Jr., in 2010; and his twin brother, Robert Walsh.

Ronald B. Shorten

Ronald B. Shorten, 83, of Scranton, died Wednesday at his home following a long illness. His wife is the former Linda Reaser. The couple were married June 25, 1960.
Born May 27, 1932 in Scranton, he was the son of the late Bertram and Jane (Wonders) Shorten. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, and was a Navy veteran, serving from 1951 until 1954. Before his retirement, Ronald was employed as sales manager for Burne Honda, and throughout his career of over 40 years, managed several automotive dealerships.
He was a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Scranton, and the Dunmore American Legion.
Ronald’s family would like to extend thanks to Compassus Hospice for the outstanding care and comfort provided by their staff.

Carl T. “Butchie” Rokita Jr., 52, of Scranton, died Friday at Hershey Medical Center after a fall at home.
Born Oct. 18, 1963, son of Carl T. Rokita Sr. and the late Mary Gammond Rokita, Carl was educated in Scranton schools and was a self-employed carpenter.
Known as “Spachle” Man, he was known for his craftsmanship, contagious laugh and big heart. He was a man of great character who lived his life guided by his heart and morals.
Also surviving are his children, Eric Krisovitch, Carl T. Rokita III, Brian Rokita, Chad Rokita, Tiara Rokita and Tyler Rokita; brothers and sisters, John Rokita and wife, Debbie; Jackie Rosencrans and husband, Mark; Thomas Rokita; and Karen Glee and husband, Bob; grandson, Kellin; several nieces and nephews; and his former companion, Diane Krisovitch.

Lynda Boyle-Walsh, 65, of Dalton, died Saturday at Regional Hospital of Scranton following a brief illness. She was the wife Leo Walsh. The couple were married Aug. 27, 2011.
Born June 19, 1950, in Jersey City, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Gene and Donna (Bocchiaro) Darcy. Lynda was a kind soul who loved to help people. She was an avid dog lover, and had a great passion for animal rescue and travel. Her career was in insurance and banking.
She was an unconditional loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and devoted wife.
“You left a void no one but the lord can hope to fill.
It’s time to meet your creator you have fulfilled the lords will.
Now it is time to shed this mortal coil of suffering and explore the mysteries of life.”

Lisa Hubshman Rose, 45, of Scranton, passed away Sunday in the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center following a brief illness. Her husband is Thomas Rose. The couple was married Dec. 13, 1996.
Born Oct. 11, 1970 in Scranton, she is the daughter of Ann Cravath Hubshman, and the late Robert X. Hubshman. Lisa was a 1988 graduate of Bishop Hannon High School, and was previously employed by Dr. Michael Burke and Scranton Radiology Associates. She was a member of St. John Neumann Parish in Scranton.
Surviving are the lights of her life, her six children, Johnny, Izabella, Dominic and Dylan Rose, all at home; Justin Haddix, Dunmore; and Thomas Rose of Wilkes-Barre. She is also survived by her two sisters, Annie Rinaldi and husband, Mark of Dunmore; Maggie Grasso and husband, Tony of Scranton; her six brothers, Jack Hubshman and wife, Rita, Scranton; Robert X. Hubshman Jr. and wife Pam, Taylor; Jerry Hubshman, Dunmore; Mark Hubshman, Gouldsboro; David Hubshman, Dunmore; and Bernie Hubshman and wife, Laura, Scranton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the ICU and Emergency Department staff of Geisenger CMC Hospital for their outstanding care and compassion given to Lisa.

Delrene “Dell” Mildred Pitch Westbrook, 73, formerly of the Green Ridge section of Scranton, died peacefully Thursday afternoon at the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the later Ronald “Dude” and Mildred Fletcher Pitch, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School and Scranton State Hospital, and CMC schools of nursing. She dedicated her life caring for others, working as a private duty nurse, a nurse at CMC and a medical instructor at Star Technical Institute, before becoming a charge nurse at Golden Living Nursing Home, from which she retired.
Surviving are her daughter, Alicia Westbrook Hunter; and her granddaughter, Olivia Cottrell, who was the apple of her eye, both of Throop; a brother, Robert Pitch, Florida; and a loving extended family of stepchildren, step-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Ronald J. Pitch.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff at VNA for their compassionate care.

Philip Gevaras, 40, of Hollisterville, Salem Twp., died Wednesday at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Danville. His wife is the former Shannon Ancherani. The couple were married June 27, 1998.
Born Feb. 11, 1976 in New Brunswick, N.J., he is the son of George Gevaras and Leslie (Young) Heid. Philip was employed as owner/operator of Zilla Lawn Care Service, and was employed at the Burger King of Dunmore in maintenance for many years.
Philip was a member of the Hamlin Fire and Rescue Department for 26 years, and the Wayne County Fire Police Association.

William Patrick Carden II, aka “Chick,” died peacefully at Abington Manor, Clarks Summit, Pa. on April 7, 2016, at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Carden, Scranton, Pa.; his children, William Patrick Carden III of Glenside, Pa.; Christina Carden Shields (William Shields) of Jenkintown, Pa.; and Cathleen Carden of Portland, Ore. William was a very proud grandfather to two grandchildren, William Carden Shields and James Robert Shields of Jenkintown, Pa. He was a very proud stepfather to Robert Grogan (Nicole Grogan) and stepgrandfather to Ella and Finn Grogan of Mercer Island, Wash.
William was preceded in death by his first wife, Maria Antoinette Giancarlo Carden of Willow Grove, Pa.; his parents, Helen Loretta Glennon and William Patrick Carden of Clarks Summit, Pa.; and his sister Mary Carden Jones of Scranton, Pa.
William was born on December 13, 1930 in Minooka to Helen and William Carden. He loved growing up in Minooka surrounded by his dear friends and family. He graduated from Minooka High School Class of 1948 and the Johnson College of Technology. William served in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was an active member of the Air Force Reserves.
He married Maria Giancarlo in 1957. After moving to Willow Grove, Pa., he began working for the U.S. Dept of the Navy for 30+ years. Over the next 11 years the couple welcomed their three children. William’s children remember their Father as a kind, loving, sweet, supportive, affectionate and humorous man. He was a generous individual who enjoyed all things related to aircraft, animals, current events and, most of all, he loved music. He was an active and dedicated member of St. David’s Church of Willow Grove, Pa. and St. Paul’s Church of Scranton, Pa.

Born Oct. 30, 1941, in Falls, he was the son of the late Jack and Margaret Dixon. Before his retirement, Stanley was employed by Huey Trucking Inc. and was previously employed by Seaboard Trucking Inc. for many years.
Surviving are his daughters, Stanya Dixon, Armanda Dixon, Brandi Dixon and Charlene Dixon; and sons, Sam and Joe Dixon, all of Scranton; stepdaughter, Alice Bartlow; stepson, Donald Fox; nine grandchildren; 10 stepgranchildren; nieces and nephews.

Joseph Nicholas Radick, 67, Jefferson Twp. and Hanover Twp., passed away peacefully April 1, 2016 at Golden Living Center, East Mountain, with family at his bedside.
Joe leaves behind his daughter, Nicole Radick; his son, Joseph Radick and wife, Nicole Suriano-Radick; and his three grandchildren, Braylon Radick, Harper Radick and Yianni Kizirouglou.
He is preceded in death by his father, Nicholas; and his mother, Theresa.
Joe was born and raised in Wilmington, Del., where he was an active parishioner and altar boy throughout childhood for the Cathedral of St. Peter. He was a graduate of the prestigious Salesianum School. He graduated from King’s College with a Bachelor of Science in Data Processing. His strong work ethic, math and interpersonal skills combined with his attention to detail allowed for him to rise to management early in his career. He spent 20 years at WEA Manufacturing/Specialty Records (Time Warner) in Olyphant, where he went from Plant Superintendent to the Group Manager of Record, Tape and VHS Operations within three years, where he directed over 750 employees. He managed the production to supply major music labels with VHS, cassette and vinyl demands for the entire U.S. market. He continued on to a 10 year role as Production Manager at Weiler Corporation in Cresco. Joe closed his career at Medico Industries in Wilkes-Barre.
Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman who had a deep respect for nature. He often included his children in fishing adventures on the shores of Promised Land State Park, boating days on local lakes including Lake Wallenpaupack and later years spent with his children and grandchildren in the Finger Lakes of New York. The past few years he enjoyed time and made great friends at his fishing cabin at Charlie’s Boat Livery on Oneida Lake, N.Y. Joe was also a Corvette and cigar aficionado, as well as a music enthusiast. Many may recall his uncanny love for Halloween and being sure to shock and surprise with his costume choices.
Joe loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, appreciated his friends new and old, found joy in the simple things in life, loved being outdoors and remained connected to his strong Catholic faith until his final moments.
The family wishes to thank the attention and efforts of the doctors, nurses and administration at Geisinger Health System, Golden Living Center, East Mountain, and AseraCare Hospice, Clarks Summit.

Stanley “Lefty” Kolodziejski, 88, of Tobyhanna died Tuesday evening at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Marlene Weirich of Pocono Lake.
Born September 3, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Stanley and Victoria (Zysk) Kolodzey.
Lefty proudly served in the United States Navy for over 20 years during both World War II and the Vietnam War. After his Naval service, he worked at Tobyhanna Army Depot as an Electronics Technician and retired after 20 years of employment.
Lefty is survived by three sisters: Helen Comstock of Tobyhanna, Jean “Jenny” Roberson of Houston, Texas and Florence “Mushie” Jones of Lynchburg, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Edward Kolodzey, Julia Beehler, George Kolodzey, Joseph Kolodzey, and Wanda Vashlishan.

William A. Musgrave, 87, of Jefferson Twp., died Thursday at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. His wife, the former Henrietta Bird, died Jan. 19, 2014.
Born June 30, 1928 in Sterling, he was the son of the late Howard and Helen (McLain) Musgrave. Bill was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. Before his retirement, he was employed by Bailey’s Furniture. He was a member of the Hollisterville United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his daughter, Beverly Domm and husband, John of Scranton; his sons, Ronald H. Musgrave and wife, Millie of Jefferson Twp.; Richard A. Musgrave and wife, Karen of Madison Twp.; his sister, Marian Prosch of Johnson City, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Floyd Musgrave; sisters, Frieda Hudgick and Gladys Mitchell; and his son, William G. Musgrave, in 1998.

Barbara Latniak

Barbara Ann Latniak, Scranton, died Monday at Regional Hospital of Scranton.
Born in Louisville, Ky., daughter of Mervin and Elizabeth McIntyre. She was a graduate of Emanuel High School. Barbara was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scranton.
Barbara was a master at Goodwill shopping. She believed in repurposing everything. Barbara and her late husband Peter Latniak owned and operated the Donkey Café for over 20 years — they were known for the best Jackass wings by Peoples Choice in NEPA for many years.
Barbara is Southern girl raised Southern Baptist and became Lutheran when relocating to Pennsylvania at the age of 19. She was a young mother raising her children while working at Triple A Trousers for 24 years, where she was the shop steward and Union Rep. During her unofficial retirement years she was a sewing instructor at White Sewing Center working with many young girls and adults, some went on to creating a career in fashion.
Barbara loved having fun and giving back from coaching and playing softball, bowling, going to the casino and line dancing with friends; mission trips to Costa Rica, ladies aid, braille, teaching other’s how to sew, and alterations for many people around Scranton. Barbara was the first woman to join the Green Ridge Lions Club.
Her greatest challenge was her battle with cancer, but it didn’t stop Barb. She held an annual fashion show, benefiting the Center for Comprehensive Cancer Care, where her students would model the fashions they designed and created while working with Barb. She wanted to try everything. It didn’t matter, even if she failed (she would say) suck it up, you’ll be okay. She had no fear. She even zip lined.
Barb greatly enjoyed her children: Connie Pheiff and husband, Jeff (Los Angeles); Theresa Verdon and husband, Jim (Madisonville); Peter Latniak and wife, Maureen (Clifton Park, N.Y.); and Tim Latniak and wife, Mary (Scranton); grandchildren: Stefanie Batyko Prudente and Sam, Michael Batyko and Caitlin Gaughan, Jessica Moyer and Jeremy, Kaitlyn Hicks and Caleb, Justin Latniak, Jaime Latniak, Joshua Latniak and Mel Mohyla, Jessica Pheiff, Julie Pheiff and Jeffrey Pheiff; great-granddaughter, Penelope Moyer. And she most enjoyed her dogs, Foxie, Zeta, Peppe.
Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Mary Matone, Jean Drasba and Tina Lowe; and many nieces and nephews.
Barb was preceded by her sisters, Gloria Hargrave, Brenda Smith; brother, Lewell McIntyre; brothers-in-laws, Joseph Matone, Chas Lowe and Thomas Drasba.
The family would like to thank many people for their comfort during the difficult time of Barbara illness, especially Dr. Fogley, Dr. Hyzinski and his nurses Judy and Sally. We would also like to thank her niece, Lori Sullivan, who was like another daughter to her.

Edward Posluszny, 92, of Spring Brook Twp., died Monday evening at St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home after an illness.
Born Jan. 10, 1924 in Scranton, son of the late Constantine and Katherine Kania Posluszny, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Makowski Posluszny; his daughter, Carol Fick; and his son, Edward Posluszny.
He served in the Army during World War II in Europe as a S/Sgt and received two Bronze Stars.
He was employed by Capitol Records, Prime-o-sash, and Firedex until he retired in 1985. He also had a band with his son Edward called the Alley Cats, where he played the drums. During retirement, he drove for Konika Film.
He loved the time he spent with his family and golfing with friends all over the country.
He was an active member of SS. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Scranton, Christ the King Church in Blakeslee, where he served as an extraordinary minister for many years, and St. Catherine of Siena in Moscow.
Surviving are a niece, Paulette Merchel; and a nephew, Bartley Kaminski; a granddaughter and six grandsons; three great-granddaughters and six great-grandsons; and several cousins.

Josephine Rizzuto (Diana), 78, of Culpeper, Va., died Sunday at Geisinger Community Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Palermo, Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Josephine Puglisi Diana. She immigrated to America in 1947 and became a resident of Scranton. She married her husband in 1958, and moved to New York.
She was a loving mother who always put her children ahead of herself.She had a wonderful sense of humor and really loved life. She was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
Josephine is survived by her children, Louann Freeman and husband, Jim; Alfonso Rizzuto Jr.; and Mario Rizzuto and wife, Ellen; two brothers, Carmen Diana and Anthony Diana; and her sister, Marie Strasburger; 12 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alfonso Rizzuto Sr.; her son, Angelo Rizzuto; and her brothers, Salvatore and Calogero Diana.

Richard D. Frampton, 45, of Dunmore died Sunday at home following an illness.
Born January 11, 1971 in Punxsutawney, PA, he was the son of the late Richard H. and Mary Marie Frampton.Richard was raised in Punxsutawney, and lived in Olyphant for many years. He was a former member of the Peckville Assemply of God. He enjoyed Nascar, football and baseball, and spending time with his children.
Surviving are (2) sons Richard and Zachary and his daughter Alyssa; and (1) grandson Adian Also surviving are his former girlfriend Barbara Kizer; and his brother, and best friend Brian Golzak.
He was preceded in death by his brother Donald Frampton; and grandparents George and Beau Maday.

Nichole C. Austin, 44, of Lake Twp., Lake Ariel, died Friday at Geisinger Community Medical Center. Her husband is Christopher K. Austin. The couple would have celebrated 20 years of marriage on Sept. 14, 2016.
Born Feb. 14, 1972 in Scranton, she is the daughter of Wayne J. Lucas of Eynon and Regina (Morrison) Schreiber of Scranton. Nichole was a graduate of North Pocono High School, where she excelled in track and basketball. She was a graduate of Johnson Technical College, and attended Misericordia College and Penn State University. She was employed as a certified veterinarian technician and dog trainer for many years.
Nichole loved outdoor activities and working with animals. She also loved her dog, Maddie; and cats, Sam and Ivy. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, surviving are a stepmother, Lisa Lucas; stepfather, Peter Schreiber; stepsisters, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Joseph and Madelyn Lucas; and her maternal grandmother, Regina Morrison.
A Mass will be celebrated:

Clara A. Cobb, 86, a guest at St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home, died Monday evening after an illness. She was the widow of John H. Janus, who died April 28, 1990.
Born March 10, 1930 in South Plainfield, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Louis and Alice (Clark) Anderson. Prior to her retirement, Clara was employed in food services at Tobyhanna Army Depot.

Walford D. Frable, 96, of Jackson, N.J. and formerly of Roaring Brook Twp., died Monday morning at Ocean Medical Center in Brick, N.J. after an illness. His wife of 76 years, Raietta Craig Frable, died Oct. 31, 2014.
Born Aug.14, 1919 in Scranton, son of the late Louis and Elizabeth Sachse Frable, he was an Army veteran. He was a former member of the Spring Brook Congregational Church in Spring Brook Twp. Before his retirement, Walford was employed by Amax Specialty Metals.
Surviving are six daughters, Edith Bennechi, Bloomfield, N.J.; Raietta Garromane, Scranton; Charlotte Reilly, Jackson, N.J.; Rosemary Eischens, Brainard, Minn.; Janet Garrduno, Moffit, Colo.; and Dawn Tarity, Trenton, S.C.; a son, Walford D. Frable Jr., Anchorage, Alaska; 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Joyce Waszak.

John M. Burgette, 80, of Scranton, was called by God on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. His wife is the former Edna Major.
Born June 22, 1935 in Scranton, he was the son of the late Rev. Winefred Fletcher Burgette and Ceola Parker Burgette. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School.John served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years, traveling the world with his family and returned to his home, Scranton, in 1975. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 20 years at Tobyhanna Army Depot as a communications repair specialist. He was a member of Bethel AME, and served on the Usher Board for many years.
John, also known as Pop Pop, was a quiet man who loved his family. He was highly respected, a strong presence, and was like a father figure to many. He also loved his church, bowling, ping pong and his dogs. John loved having his sister, Janie, in Scranton during his final days.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, JoAnn Scott and husband, Donahue of East Stroudsburg; Ceola Blake of Allentown; Sandra Miller and husband, Melvin Sr. of Scranton; John Burgette Jr. and wife, Laura of Scranton; Robert Burgette of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Sean Burgette Sr. and wife, Mary of Scranton; his sister, Janie Burgette of Scranton; and brother, Melvin Burgette of Delaware; 27 grandchildren, Austin Scott, Alaya Scott, Thais Scott, Dacia Scott and Lela Scott; Marcea Johnson and husband, Carlos; Candice Blake, Leon M. Blake Jr., Ceola J. John Chinchak, 83, of Throop, died Friday at Geisinger Community Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 3, 1932 in Throop, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary (Bartel) Chinchak. John was educated in the Throop schools and before his retirement, was employed as a groom for Walter Ross Stables.
Surviving are his sister, Theresa Sheridan of Throop.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, George and Paul Chinchak; and his sisters, Julia Chinchak and Anna Halderman.

Linda S. Thomas, 66, of Scranton, died Monday at Geisinger Community Medical Center after complications from surgery. She is the wife of Roy N. Thomas. The couple celebrated 46 years of marriage on Aug. 27, 2015.Born Nov. 12, 1949 in Scranton, daughter of the late Earl and Emma Stone Travis, she attended Scranton Technical High School. Linda was employed for more than 40 years as a pet groomer.
Also surviving are two sons, Roy W. Thomas, Forest City; and Eric N. Thomas, Scranton; three daughters, Kelly L. Sawkulich, Scranton; Lani N. Long and husband, David, Colorado; and Amy B. Born May 2, 1941 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Margaret (McGraw) Hinds. Prior to her retirement, Loretta was employed in the Environmental Services Department at Mercy Hospital in Scranton.
Loretta was of the Roman Catholic faith.

Lydia M. Sanderson, 100, of Osprey, Fla. and formerly of Bell Mountain, Scranton, died Thursday morning at Village on the Isle Lutheran Nursing Home in Venice, Fla. She was the widow of John Sanderson, who died in 1967.Born Sept. 14, 1915 in Scranton, daughter of the late Adam and Augusta Kalpin, Lydia was educated in the Dickson City Bell Mountain School and attended German School at Immanuel Lutheran School.
Lydia was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and lived life with great faith and love of her church. She was superintendent and teacher of Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School at Immanuel Lutheran for more than 50 years. She was the altar guild at church for many years, and was active with the Ladies Aid Society, where she managed and prepared countless dinners for the congregation. She worked as a licensed practical nurse until her retirement in 1987.
Surviving are her daughter, Jacquelin Van Durick, Osprey, Fla., with whom she resided for several years; son, James Sanderson and wife, Joann, Bell Mountain, Scranton; brother, Ernest Calpin, Bell Mountain; and sister, Eleanor Scott, Anchorage, Alaska; five grandchildren, Michael Van Durick and wife, Emily; Lisa Brosnan and husband, Neil; Nadine Feraco and husband, Skip; James P. Sanderson, Scranton; and Kenneth Sanderson and wife, Laura, Archbald; and 12 great-grandchildren, Kenneth, Jessica, Alyssa Sanderson, Zachary and Nicholas VanDurick, Meagan and Abigail Brosnan, Alexis, Trey, Emily, Daniel and Dominick Feraco.

Born May 16, 1968 in Dover, N.J., son of the late Raymond and Joyce Levens Brown, Stanley lived in Scranton the past 25 years and was employed as a tire technician with McCarthy Tires of Scranton.

Born December 4, 1939 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Helen (Theobald) Gaul. She was educated in the Scranton schools, and prior to her retirement was employed by the Scranton Dry Goods Store. Prior to her illness, she attended St. Peter’s Cathedral in Scranton.

William J. Crambo

William J. Crambo of Baileys Crossroads, Virginia, formerly of Scranton, died on February 22 after a long battle with heart cancer.
Born in Scranton, Pa., he was the son of the late William Crambo and Victoria Crambo. He graduated from Scranton Central High School and Pennsylvania State University in 1974. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a civil engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Washington D.C. His many assignments included a year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he enjoyed many camel rides.
Bill was a longtime volunteer with the AFS Intercultural Programs USA, among others, hosting international high school students wanting to study abroad. Students he hosted were from Russia, Germany and Poland. He took pride in introducing the students to American culture and the many memorials and landmarks throughout the area as well as American cuisine, especially pizza, which he long felt should have been at the top of the food pyramid.
He enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and spent long hours researching family ancestors in Poland frequently visiting for weddings and holidays.
He is survived by a sister, Susan Crambo Geiss of Tennessee; two nieces, Elise and Valerie Geiss of Wisconsin; two cousins, Linda Atsus (“Uncle Bill” to sons, Michael and Matthew Bregman); and Joseph Atsus.
A Mass will be celebrated:

Mary E. Heitman of Spring Brook Twp., died Wednesday morning at Regional Hospital of Scranton following a brief illness. She is the widow of Joseph W. Heitman Jr., who died June 8, 2008.Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Beatrice (Bonnetto) Webb.
Mary was a longtime devout Christian member of the Maple Lake United Methodist Church in Spring Brook Twp., where she taught Sunday school for many years, and served as Church School Superintendent, bringing the Gospel of Jesus to children, and thus, touching many lives.
Mary leaves a legacy of abounding love, kindness and compassion for all, and with her endearing spirit, she saw the good in everyone.
Mary loved all animals, and is also survived by her beloved cat, Princess; and her rescued Bishon-Poo, Mary, both of whom will be lovingly cared for by her son.
She was also predeceased in death by many beloved cats, dogs, rabbits, birds and more, and is now reunited with them.
Surviving are her son, Joseph W. Heitman III of Spring Brook Twp.; three brothers, Robert Webb Jr. and Paul Webb of Falls; Jack Webb of Peru, N.Y.; and her sister, Jean West of Fairfield, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Mildred Smalley; and Betty Webb; and her brother, William Webb.

Born Feb. 24, 1938 in Scranton, son of the late Walter and Arminda Cooper Shaffer. Harold was employed in trucking business as an owner/operator for many years.

Lawrence J. “Larry” Brown, 67, of Madison Twp., died Friday evening at his home. He and his wife, Kathleen O’Neill Brown, celebrated 40 years of marriage on Nov. 29, 2015.
Born May 5, 1948 in Philadelphia, son of the late Wallace and Lillian Miller Brown, he was an Army veteran, proudly serving in the Vietnam War and receiving the Purple Heart Medal.
Larry loved his family, his dogs, his country and his job. He worked as an engineer and had just started his 50th year in Naval Aviation.
Also surviving are his daughters, Lauren Shahin and Lily Blaszak; sons-in-law, Soroush Shahin and Scott Blaszak; brother, Wallace Brown; sisters, Sandra Hurley, Mary Beth Brown, Peggy Trotter and Theresa Rann; and dogs, Mazie, Suzette and Sake.

Jesse Gunderman, 45, of Madison Twp., died Monday evening at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore after a brave battle with cancer. His wife is the former Lisa Sobolak. The couple celebrated 24 years of marriage on Aug. 3, 2015.Born April 1, 1970, in Scranton, son of Dale Smoke and Janet Kuipers Smoke of Thornhurst, Jesse was employed by Tobyhanna Army Depot as a technical radio mechanic.
Also surviving are his daughter, Marie Gunderman, Madison Twp.; sisters, Edna Bradley and Jeanette Smith, both of Tipton, Pa.; brother-in-law, Richard Shoener, Thornhurst; grandchildren, Albrey and Bentley; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Katie Shoener, in 2004.

Josephine Miceli, 74, of Dunmore, died Sunday at Geisinger Community Medical Center following an illness. She was the widow of Giuseppe Miceli, who died June 13, 2005.
Born Sept. 9, 1941 in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of late Anthony and Rosemarie (Amendola) Sorrentino. Before her retirement, Josephine was employed by the Comfort Inn in Sterling. She was of the Roman Catholic faith.
Surviving are her daughters, Frances Young and husband, Justin, Dunmore; and Laura Miceli, Dunmore; her granddaughter, Tamara Nicole Young; her sisters, Susan, Patricia and Genevieve; and brother, Anthony; and nieces and nephews.

Mary E. Brennan, 91, of Moscow, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore. She was the widow of William J. Brennan, who died in 1999.Born in Detroit, Mich. on July 22, 1924, she was the daughter of Stewart and Margaret Alderton. She met her husband and partner for life, Bill, while attending Sacred Heart High School in Dearborn, Mich. They were married in September of 1947. They lived in Michigan for 30 years and retired to Sarasota, Fla., where she lived for the next 28 years. Mary was active in her retirement community and also volunteered at Meals on Wheels and the Sarasota Women’s Exchange for many years.
Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She loved spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren. Mary also loved to travel, going to Europe, the Mediterranean and Central America with friends and family. She was loved by all who knew her for her kind and generous spirit, and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by daughters Mary (Dr. Ed Sherwin), Maggie (John Dyer), Kathleen (Mike Schmenk), Sharon (Schuyler Hoving), Colleen (Larry Hall); daughter-in-law, Ann Brennan; and sons, Peter (Karen Brennan) and Terry. Mary also has 12 grandchildren, Mike, Dan, Maureen, John, Brian, Katie, Laura, Maureen, Adrienne, Maggie, Meghan and Lauren.
Mary was preceded into death by her husband, Bill; son, Patrick; sister, Margie; and brothers, Bob and Tom.
The Brennan family extends its deepest gratitude to Dr. Tracey Galardi, the staff at Regional Hospital of Scranton and the entire staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore for their kind and compassionate care.

John “Jack” McAndrew, 71, a resident of the Pavilion at St. Luke’s Village, Hazleton, died Saturday morning.Born July 27, 1944 in Avoca, son of the late Patrick and Louise Burns McAndrew, Jack lived in New Jersey and Scranton before moving to Hazleton, where he spent time at the Patrician Personal Care Home before his stay at St. Luke’s.
Surviving are his wife, Elaine Galletti McAndrew; and sons, John and Patrick McAndrew of Old Forge; sisters, Joan McAndrew, Eagle Rock; and Patrice McAndrew, Drums; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, James and Paul McAndrew.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated:

Janis (John) Igals

Janis (John) Igals, 75, of Scranton and formerly of Moosic, died Wednesday evening at his home after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Corinne McMullen Igals, in 1998.Born Jan. 22, 1940, in Riga, Latvia, son of the late Valdis and Xenia Igals, he lived in Latvia until 1944, moving to Germany and the Latvian D.P. Camp in Esslingen am Neckar until 1949. He arrived with his family in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1949, becoming a U.S. citizen in 1958. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Technical and attended Stevens Institute of Technology.
He remained a fraternity member of Talavija, one of the oldest and largest Latvian student corporations.
He was an Army veteran serving with the 25th Artillery, obtaining the rank of corporal. Before his retirement, he was employed by Verizon, formerly N.Y. Telephone, as an underground cable splicer and surveyor. He was employed in early years with the J. G. Braun Co. and later as a draftsman and engineer with M.W. Kellog Co. He was a resident of Lakeville and Moosic, and most recently in Scranton.
John enjoyed old movies, country and westerns, artillery, contemplating the string theory, sitting in the sunshine, drinking Guiness and finally learning to use his iPad.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Surviving are his daughter, Valerie Igals and fiancée, Paul McHale; Karen Stevens and Ashley McHale; dear friends, Mike Walker, Janis Schulmeisters and Alex McKenzie; and stepchildren, Jack White and Corinne Gonzalez.
Private graveside services with military honors will be conducted at Indian Orchard Cemetery in Honesdale.
Paul G. O’Malley

Paul G. O’Malley, 64, of Scranton, died Sunday evening at his home following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. His wife is the former JoAnn McDonnell, the couple celebrated 38 years of marriage on July 23, 2015.
Born April 13, 1951 in Scranton, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Conway) O’Malley. He was a 1970 graduate of Dunmore High School, and was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Before his retirement in 2007, was Director of Facilities and Grounds for the Scranton School District. Paul was a former member of the Scranton School Board, serving from 2007 until 2011, serving a year as School Board President. Paul was a member of St. Paul’s Parish in Scranton, and a former member of VFW Post 3474 of Dunmore. Paul’s greatest enjoyment was time spent with his family and friends, especially summers in the pool, going on cruises and most of all, playing with his grandchildren.
Paul’s family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Joseph Leo, Dr. Ajay Shetty, Dr. Christopher Peters, Dr. Jeffrey Grynn and Dr. Gregory Enders and the entire staff at NROC and Hematology and Oncology Associates, Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Rachel of Angels Touch Home Health Care.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his son, Paul J. O’Malley and his wife, Joy of Scranton; Katie Feeney and husband, Dennis of Dunmore; two brothers, James O’Malley and wife, Jean of Covington Twp.; and William O’Malley and wife, Nancy of Dunmore; sisters, Mary Kilker of Scranton; and Nancy Hughes and husband, Frank of Ashley; grandchildren, Shannon, Liam, Maggie O’Malley, Kenneth, Paige, Liam, Thomas; and soon to be born grandchild, Feeney; his aunt, Alona Conway; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Paul was preceded in death by his nephew, Timothy Kilker; and his brother-in-laws, Thomas McDonnell and Anthony Kilker.

William W. Mentz, Daleville, died Saturday in the Regional Hospital of Scranton after a prolonged illness.Born 1954 in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Carl A. and Margaret Bedford Mentz. Bill was a graduate of North Pocono High School and a member of the baseball team. Bill was an avid sports enthusiast and an advocate for little league baseball, coaching countless local teams. He was also a football fan, and enjoyed watching Penn State and the Miami Dolphins. He was of the Methodist faith. Before his illness, he was the co-owner of both BillDons Market in Dickson City and the Hill Market on Mulberry Street in Scranton, and also worked as the Meat Department Manager at Schiff’s Cash and Carry in Dickson City.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Mike King for the incredible care he gave to Bill in his final months.
Surviving are sons William, Daleville; and Eugene and companion, Tabitha Bronsburg, Dunmore; his former wife, Rose Caprio and her wife, Sherry Strain, Dunmore; a brother, Carl and companion, Cecelia Jamison, Glenmoore; nephews, Carl Edward and David Mentz; aunts, uncles and cousins.

William Drackly, 72, of Scranton, died Jan. 5 at Moses Taylor Hospital after an illness.Born May 28, 1943 in Reading, son of the late Anthony Drackly and Patricia Gabriel Kowalyk, Bill was a 1965 graduate of the University of Scranton, receiving a bachelor’s degree in political science. Before his retirement, he was employed in management with Woolworth Department Stores. Most recently, he was employed by The Scranton Times-Tribune. He was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Scranton.
His family would like to thank Mike at the Prescription Center in Scranton for his friendship and support. Bill was an advocate for the poor and disenfranchised and was a great lover of animals, adopting many rescue dogs in his lifetime.
Surviving are his sister, Evann Xanthis, Scranton; brother, John Kowalyk; nephew, Andrew Xanthis; niece, Krysten Xanthis; and cousins, aunts and uncles.

Elsie I. Schweitzer, 91, of Scranton entered into eternal life on Sunday morning at Regional Hospital in Scranton.
Born March 14, 1924 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Elsie (Klee) Schweitzer. Elsie’s family would like to thank the staff at the Intensive Care Unit at Regional Hospital for their wonderful care.
She was a graduate of Scranton Central High School.Prior to her retirement, Elsie was employed by the Bell Telephone Company for 37 years; and had previously lived in and worked in Baltimore, MD. She was a life long member of Peace Lutheran Church, and a member of the Bell Pioneers.
Elsie was called by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through Baptism at Peace Lutheran Church 91 years ago. She walked in the gifts of Forgiveness and Faith all her earthly life, and was privileged to serve God and his church in Immeasurable ways. Today she walks with her Lord in eternal glory. Thanks be to God.
Surviving are her three sisters, Carolyn Brzowski, Dundalk, MD, Lorraine Pensak of Factoryville, PA and Grace Morris of Mount Bethel, PA; her brother Harold Schweitzer of Yuma, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Ruth Schweitzer and Lillian Wheeler; and her cousin Evelyn Jean Schweitzer.

Esther Rankosky, of Spring Brook Twp., died peacefully Sunday morning at her daughter’s home following a brief illness. Her loving and devoted husband of 60 years, whom she dearly missed, Joseph F. Rankosky died on June 25, 2010.
Born October 24, 1928 in Old Forge, PA, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Michael and Mary Castellani Vitello. Esther was a graduate of Old Forge High School. She attended Parker Hill Community Church and Pocono Community Church, and enjoyed the Prime Time fellowship at Parker Hill Community Church. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Esther was a wonderful cook, known for her delicious Italian meals. She also enjoyed playing the piano for family and friends.
Surviving are her daughter Sharon R. Golden of Moscow, PA; two sons: Joseph M. Rankosky of Houston, TX, and Michael G. Rankosky of Spring Brook Twp. PA; four grandsons: Joey, David and Brian and wife Jessica Rankosky, and Brandon Golden; two great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Emily; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister Jennie Gretz and brother Daniel Vitello; her daughter-In-law Ruth Rankosky, and her son-In-law: Dr. Donald Golden.

Jeanne Grab Fenton

After a long and hard fought struggle with various illnesses, including Leukemia, Jeanne Grab Fenton, 89, passed away on Jan. 8, 2016. Daughter of the late Anastasia and Joseph Grab, she was born on Oct. 15, 1926 in Thornhurst.
Jeanne graduated from Moscow High School and then joined the U.S. Cadet Nurses Corp. She attended Hahnemann Hospital in Scranton to earn her R.N. degree. She met Jack Fenton, who was serving in the U.S. Navy, and they married on Jan. 2, 1951. She continued nursing while they were stationed at Guam; San Diego, Calif.; Puerto Rico; Adak, Alaska; and Washington, D.C. After being discharged from the Navy, Jack went on to work for the Government Services Administration and was based at Bern, Kan., and Austin, Texas, while Jeanne continued her nursing career.
While living in Austin, Jeanne and Jack both became involved in renovating houses, sponsoring and assisting Polish and Vietnamese families to relocate to the United States, and they helped established St. Catherine’s Church in their new community in Oak Hill, Texas.
Jeanne is preceded in death by her husband, Jack, as well as both of her parents and 11 siblings.
She is survived by her daughters, Janet Grove of Virginia Beach, Va.; Kathy Alexander of Maricopa, Ariz.; Judi Plumer of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; and Karol Fenton of Maricopa, Ariz.; and two sons-in-laws, Kenny Alexander and Jeff Plumer. Her grandchildren are Hope Grove, Mikki Sander, Katie West and Jeremy Alexander. Great-grandchildren are Krysten and Tabitha Grove, Bryan and Jayson West, Jordyn Sander and Kamdyn Alexander. Her great-great-grandchildren are Bryleigh, Robert and Beau. Also surviving are a younger brother, Joe Grab; and sister, Ellie Fakoury.
The viewing will be held at:
St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Moscow on Tuesday, Jan. 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The Mass will follow immediately at 12:30 p.m.
The burial will be conducted at St. Catherine’s Cemetery following the service.
A reception will take place at Thornhurst Fire Hall.

Miguel “Mike” Ortega, 75, of Scranton, died Tuesday at the Linwood Nursing and Rebab Center in Scranton, where he was a guest the last two years. His wife is the former Dolores Barnes.
Born May 22, 1940 in Puerto Rico, he is the son of the late Emilio and Christina (Collazo) Ortega. Before his retirement, Mike was employed by Chamberlain Manufacturing Corporation of Scranton. He was a member of the Reformed Baptist Church of Scranton.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his son, Angel Ortega, Utica, N.Y.; daughters, Sharon Cave, Quakertown; and Christine Price, Chalfont; five brothers, Emilio Ortega, New Jersey; Francisco Ortega, Northampton; Antonio Ortega, Puerto Rico; and Jose Ortega, Puerto Rico; and Luis Ortega, Boston, Mass.; and three sisters, Ana, Luz and Blanca; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Mike was also preceded in death by his daughter, Ana Rosa; and brothers, Felipe, Juanito and Ramon.

Florence Gifford, 86, of Greentown, died peacefully January 1, 2016. She was surrounded by her loving family who tenderly cared for her during her long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was the widow of James H. Gifford Sr., who died July 23, 1977.
Born July 11, 1929 in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Richard and Sadie (Doblin) Pierrepont. Prior to her retirement, Florence spent many years in the deli and restaurant business while raising her family of 13 children.
Surviving are her children who will sorely miss their beloved mother: Norman Gifford of Tobyhanna, Sharon Gifford of Greentown, Kenneth C. Gifford of Greentown, James H. Gifford Jr. of Greentown, Carolyn Gjoka of Greentown, Daniel Gifford of Greentown, Kathleen Rhodes of Florida, Eileen Gifford of Greentown, Mary Ann Swingle of Greentown, and Jamie Lukeski of Hamlin; her sister, Shirley Giella of East Meadow, N.Y.; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, George and Robert Gifford; and her grandson, Richard Gifford.

Joseph Lescinsky, 73, of Scranton, died Friday at Moses Taylor Hospital after an illness.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Boleslaw and Helen Kurtz Lescinsky, he worked many years at the Lackawanna Bakery. He was also employed as a house painter with his brother, William. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his sister, Mary Capulish, Scranton; brother, William Lescinsky and wife, Joan, Covington Twp.; several nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles; and three sisters, Dorothy Tomlinson, Rose Diana and Helen Keiper.
Services will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family.
